       [ VERY IMPORTANT NOTE: Before 28 Dec 1994, only 
         the binary versions of SCE were distributed and 
         they expired the 1st day of the next year. Now sce 
         does not expire and the sources are available in 
         the "src" directory. ]

  This directory contains the source and executable versions of 
  SCE (a SCreen Editor).

  SCE is intended to replace vi, mainly for users who don't want to learn
  the subtilities of the visual editor (or cordially hate it). SCE is
  a very simple editor, but smart enought to solve 99% of text editing
  tasks.
 
  SCE does not includes Curses, and is designed to work ONLY 
  with:
  
    HP-TERM0 terminals (all HP terminals and hpterm Xwindows client).

    aixterm terminals (aixterm IBM-RISC6000 Xwindows client) .

    xterm terminals (xterm Xwindows client. Requires keyboard definition,
                     see the INSTALL file in src directory)

    dtterm terminals (dtterm HP-UX Xwindows client)
  
  and takes profit from features exclusives to these terminals.

  Due to standarization of Xterm, sce also is know to work with many
  other emulators as Putty, Kconsole, MacOSX Termimal, ...
  
  Also, for compatibilty, SCE suports:

     vt100 terminals (and similars, such as vt102, vt220, xterm Xwindows
        client, etc...). Note that vt100 mode is not the prefferred mode
        for SCE, mainly because the editor is less friendly in this 
        mode due to the lack of function keys.
  

  All the binaries are in compress format. See src/INSTALL for tips to
  install them.
  
  This directory contains:

    doc_spanish The SPANISH version of SCE docs (the only available).
                Note tha SCE itself is an english speaking program and
                it is intended to need NO documentation. [ OK, almost not ;-) ]
                
                In such a directory the files are:
                
                  history.doc Release notes 
                  screRev5.2.doc Last Release changes
                  scre.mm     The SCE manual (nroff)
                  scre.man    The SCE manual (printable)
                  printdoc    or how to traslate scre.mm in scre.man
                              and print it.

     src         The source directory, were you find:

*    linux32     LINUX 32 bit binaries (tested in Debian Sarge, Etch and Lenny).  

*    linux64     LINUX 64 bit binaries (tested in Debian Lenny).  

*    aix5.3      AIX 5.3 binaries 

*    macosx      MacOSX 10.4 (Tiger) and MacOSX 10.6 (Snow Leopard) binaries. 
                 Must work in other versions.

*    PC          IBM-PC & Compatibles binaries.
                 This is derived from sce 4.2 (unix) version, so it lacks 
                 some features of the 5.xx versions. NO SOURCES 
                 AVAILABLE HERE (ask autor).
                 
OLD SYSTEMS  (in directory of same name):
                 
*    irix        IRIX 5.x - 6.x/ binaries.

*    aix6000     AIX IBM RISC-6000 binaries.
    
*    hp700       HP-UX 9.01,10.xx HP9700 series binaries. NOT compatible 
                 with pre HP-UX/8.0 versions. Not tested with 8.0.

*    hp800       HP9800 series. Same as HP9700 series binaries. 
    
*    Sun4C       SunOS 4.1, Sun4C binaries (OLD, 5.23 version).

*    alpha       DEC/Alpha OSF1 V2.0, binaries (OLD, 5.23 version).

*    linux107    LINUX 1.0.7 binaries.                 

*    hp300       HP-UX 9.0, HP9300/9400 series binaries. NOT compatible 
                 with pre HP-UX/8.0 versions. Not tested with 8.0.
